The British government has announced plans to tackle youth unemployment, which is at its highest rate in 15 years. Over a million people between the ages of 16 and 24 are out of work in the UK.

They plan to provide 160,000 wage subsidies in which companies will be given £2,275 to take on young people for six months. They also hope to create 250,000 work placements and 20,000 new apprenticeships.

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said that young people feel "demoralised" by the job-hunting process when there are so few jobs available now.

The scheme is expected cost over £1bn, but the government have not declared where the money will come from.

Opposition politician
Liam Byrne says that, in fact, working families will end up paying for
this through taxes. He says the scheme should be paid for by bankers' bonuses.

What do you think of this scheme? Who should pay to help young people get back to work?
